CLEAN UP KENYA MATHARE DAY

These pictures documents a community cleanup organised by Clean Up Kenya in partnership with Footprints for Change, the Country Government of Nairobi through the office of the Hospital Ward Administrator and several youth groups in Mathare. The event was held on 17th November 2018 and was also attended by volunteers from Mathare and the larger Nairobi and Kiambu areas. The youth groups who took part included Upcoming Mathare, New Genius, You and I, Omisio, Riverside, River Jump, Young Rovers, Lampstand, Fresh Toilet, Kosovo, Sanaa Dancers, among others. Africa Nazarene University sent the highest number of volunteers to this event with students from Kenyatta University, Nairobi University, LDS Church and Kiambu Amani Club also attending. Packaging Industries Limited (PIL) and other organisations helped us in the organisation of this project which was attended by over 300 volunteers collecting close to 30 tonnes of rubbish. We also managed to close down an illegal dumpsite in the area.
