Kibra Community Cleanup was held in Nairobi as part of a project to recover plastics from Nairobi River and source areas. This project was supported by Norwegian Retailers Environment Fund. The cleanup took place on 15th April 2023 and focused on areas around Maranatha. Headcount number of participants at the start was 227 with total volunteers estimated to be 400+. The cleanup saw the recovery of approximately 50 tonnes of waste with 20 percent estimated to be plastics related. Some of the groups that took part in the cleanup include Walakola CBO, Hope Foundation, Spices Warriors, Huitfambo Dance Crew, Slum Going Green, T-Area CBO, among others.
